New Current Affairs Programme Launched

TVNZ Head of News & Current Affairs, Heaton Dyer, today confirmed details of a flagship new programme, SUNDAY - a primetime current affairs programme that will commence Sunday evenings in March on TV ONE.

"This is a current affairs programme designed to reflect New Zealanders in the 21st century. SUNDAY is an exciting new concept originated and developed in New Zealand for New Zealanders," he said.

Hosted by Mike Hosking, SUNDAY will be broadcast live each week, from a state of the art studio offering the show unlimited potential. It will have a contemporary format that will be flexible and unpredictable. Mike Hosking will also continue his duties as co-host of BREAKFAST, weekday mornings on TV ONE.

Heaton Dyer explained, "SUNDAY's commitment is to take viewers beyond the news into an hour of original stories from across New Zealand and around the world."

"SUNDAY is the biggest commitment that TVNZ has made to a new current affairs programme since the launch of the HOLMES programme.

An unparalleled line-up of award winning journalists comprising Cameron Bennett, Rob Harley, Miriama Kamo, Janet McIntyre and Mike Valintine will deliver stories with editorial integrity, attitude and style.

Executive Producer for SUNDAY, Max Adams, promises a programme that viewers will find has a greater diversity of content and storytelling techniques: "Our correspondents will face no boundaries as they pursue the most compelling stories wherever they are, because SUNDAY will draw on the full resources of TVNZ News & Current Affairs to deliver its commitment to world class journalism that is distinctively made in New Zealand."
