Waste Strategy Good First Step
Business New Zealand welcomes the Government's national waste strategy launched today.
Chief Executive Simon Carlaw said good waste strategies are also good business practice.
"The strategy is a good first step as a statement of intent. But zero waste is not zero cost. No matter how good waste strategies may read, practical implementation requires rigorous economic analysis.
"This is the obvious next step.
"How and to whom costs are to be apportioned also requires careful consideration. This must take full account of the reality that the rate of growth of the New Zealand economy will determine our ability to fund new waste minimisation programmes."
