Queenstown Fly By Wire Gets Certificate To Open

The Occupational Safety and Health Service has issued a Certificate of Registration, under the Amusement Device Regulations 1978, to Fly by Wire, Queenstown.

This Certificate of Registration will allow Fly by Wire to seek approval from the Queenstown Lakes District Council for a permit to recommence operation.

The Certificate of Registration has been issued based on information provided to OSH by Fly by Wire's registered engineer, who has certified that the equipment can be operated without danger to persons operating or using it.

"The issuing of the Certificate of Registration by OSH is separate from the investigation into Fly by Wire following the accident in November 2001 in which a Swedish tourist suffered serious injury," said John Pannett, OSH Southland Service Manager.

"It is anticipated that the investigation report will be completed in the near future.

"It is the perceived risk of danger that makes people undertake Adventure tourist activities. The actual risk of harm must, however, be minimised and companies engaged in the industry must have appropriate measures in place to ensure that all practicable steps are taken to keep people safe."
