NZ Tourism Awards Finalists Announced
The finalists of the New Zealand Tourism Awards 2002 were announced at the Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ) tourism trade show in Auckland today in front of 1500 international and domestic tourism delegates.
The Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIANZ) manages the awards and TIANZ Chief Executive, John Moriarty, said that this year’s awards were extremely well supported and of very high quality.
“Every year we like to make the task of our judges extremely challenging and this year was no exception, with so many excellent entries to choose from.”
“Everybody has picked up the flavour of the Tourism Strategy 2010 by focussing on business sustainability and recognising that tourism must fit within communities.”
“The next phase of the finalist process involves a site visit by judges to ensure that words are matched by deeds. After that another round of independent judging occurs from which the Supreme winner and category winners will be chosen. These will be announced at the NZ Tourism Conference in August 2002.
Mr Moriarty said these Tourism Awards demonstrate the industry’s pursuit of business excellence – something that benefits communities, investors and those who have committed themselves to a career in tourism.
The awards are sponsored by Air New Zealand and supported by Tourism New Zealand. Sky City Ltd are sponsors of the Tourism Marketing and Development category, Telecom are sponsors of the Tourism Innovator Awards, NZ House and Garden/On Holiday are sponsors of the Visitor Accommodation and Transportation Category and Montana Wines are sponsors of the Visitor Activities and Attractions category.
