Overseas And Local Vocational Education And Training Experts Converge On Wellington

Leading international and local experts in tertiary education and workplace learning met in Wellington today to explore the critical role of vocational and educational training in a knowledge society.

Delegates were attending the ‘Work in Progress – New Directions in Workplace Learning’ conference which is being organised by Skill New Zealand and co-partners the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (CTU) and BusinessNZ.

Adrienne D’Ath, Chair of Skill New Zealand, said the broad representation of conference speakers and attendees underlined the importance of workplace learning.

“Having the global perspective and experience of speakers from the UK and Australia is the key to fostering more effective collaborations and partnerships both domestically and internationally,” said Adrienne D’Ath.

“It is interesting to note that the challenges facing workplace learning in Australia and Britain are similar to those facing New Zealand. So sharing these learnings can help us identify best practice and new initiatives.

“It is also gratifying to see the broad range of New Zealand representatives from universities, polytechnics and industry training organisations who are contributing to developing new directions in workplace learning.”

The ‘Work in Progress – New Directions in Workplace Learning’ conference runs from 21-22 May.
