Carter Holt Harvey should be wary of
pressing ahead with plans to lay off half the work-force at
its Kinleith pulp and paper mill while the issue is before
the courts, says the workers’ union.
EPMU national secretary Andrew Little said that workers were resisting taking up jobs with contractor ABB while the matter was still under dispute.
Carter Holt Harvey today issued a press release saying that any worker who took a job with ABB would still get paid redundancy from CHH. The company intends contracting maintenance work at the mill to ABB.
The union is appealing the Employment Tribunal’s refusal to order the company to consult the workforce properly about its plans. The case is expected to be heard by the Employment Court next week.
