"Today's call for lower taxes from United Future means that there is now a clear majority of parties in the new Parliament advocating tax reduction", said Simon Carlaw, Chief Executive of Business New Zealand.
He was commenting on the statement by Gordon Copeland, Deputy Leader of United Future, confirming that party's commitment to a reduction in corporate taxes to 30%.
"The Government is increasingly in a minority both in Parliament and around the world in defending a high tax policy while advocating higher rates of growth. No successful high growth country has also increased taxes. There is no apparent reason why New Zealand should be an exception.
"Talk about returning to the top half of the OECD, and the growth in jobs and better social outcomes that would bring, will remain just talk until action is taken to deliver on growth. That must include lower taxes that are competitive with our trading partners."
