Third Quarter Television Advertising revenue up 6.6%

Television advertising revenue increased by 6.6 per cent for the three months to 30 September 2002 over the same period in 2001. The increase for the nine months to 30 September was 5.9 per cent.

The third quarter increase follows on the 7.1 per cent increase recorded for the second quarter to 30 June 2002.

The NZTBC’s Executive Director, Bruce Wallace said, "We have now seen three quarters of growth for television revenue which reflects the healthy state of the economy and the benefit of a highly competitive electronic media industry."

"Television companies are confident that growth will continue for the balance of 2002 with welcome spending from the packaged goods, banking and telecommunications sectors."

He pointed to high levels of viewing for the Commonwealth Games, the Warriors and the onset of the NPC championship.

The NZTBC is made up of the four companies operating national broadcast television channels. They are CanWest New Zealand, Prime Television New Zealand, Sky Network Television and Television New Zealand.
