Franchise Industry - Award Winners

Announcing the winners of the Franchise Association of New Zealand's (FANZ) annual awards, Robert Fowler, Chairman of FANZ, says the Franchise Awards are the premier franchising event of the year, celebrating excellence in franchising.

Supreme Award - Fastway Couriers (NZ) Ltd

The winner of the Supreme Award for the Franchise Association of New Zealand Business Awards, 2002, is Fastway Couriers (NZ) Ltd.

The Judges were very impressed that a home grown franchise has had such major business success, not only in New Zealand, but on the international stage as well. Started in Hawkes Bay in 1983, and still headquartered there, Fastway Couriers are now operating their franchise in Australia, Malaysia, England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain and Morocco, with the rights for Canada having just been granted.

Bruce Speers, Chief Executive Officer of Fastway Couriers, says with a group turnover of $180 million the franchise is proud to be based in Hawkes Bay and be earning export royalties for the New Zealand economy.

He says "as long as you do your market research and adapt your system to fit the country's culture, the potential for exporting a New Zealand based franchise is enormous".
