RBN Awarded Innovation Award From the Institution of Engineers

RBN was awarded the AusIndustry Innovation Award from the Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust) for the RBNi 8200. The award, which had 40 finalists from various disciplines of engineering, was judged against the criteria of the impact the project will have on the quality of life of the relevant communities, the extent to which the project represents world best practice of engineering, the measure of the project's contribution to the national economy and the number of personnel engaged in the research and development.

The RBNi 8200 is the first to market reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM) and is outside plant (OSP) hardened, for use in remote terminals, central offices and enterprise environments. It offers a variety of cost-effective solutions and is particularly suited for digital loop carrier (DLC) networks facing capacity, provisioning or fiber exhaustion. By focusing on delivering a low-cost solution, the RBNi 8200 is designed to enable lower cost broadband services to business' and residential users. It is designed for simplicity and flexibility of use, has a small form factor, low power usage and low cost of ownership -- it pushes the boundaries of optical networking closer to the end user. The RBNi 8200 adds value to and extends the life of existing infrastructure such as SONET or SDH. It allows capacity expansion without the need for forklift upgrades. It is multi-protocol, enabling the integrated transport of voice, video and data.
