NZ Retail magazine's ABC membership withdrawn
The New Zealand Audit Bureau of Circulations Inc has
withdrawn the membership of New Zealand Retail magazine. The
magazine is produced in-house by the New Zealand Retailers
Association at their Wellington headquarters. Recent issues
of the publication have not used "up-to-date circulation
figures", a move which contravenes ABC rules.
The publishers of New Zealand Retail ran ABC circulation figures from the incorrect audit period (six months to December 2001) in the magazine's September and November 2002 issues. The NZ Retailers Association should have published the figures relating to the six months to June 2002. New Zealand Retail effectively claimed a circulation of 5707 instead of 5014. The Audit Bureau of Circulations has withdrawn their ABC membership "effective immediately".
The New Zealand Audit Bureau of Circulations provides accurate and up-to-date circulation figures to advertisers, advertising agencies, publishers and the public. These audit figures cover over 300 publications, including all paid daily and weekly newspapers, virtually all community newspapers plus a large number of New Zealand published magazines.
