Farmlands opens new store in Wanganui

Media Release

Farmlands opens new store in Wanganui

Retail group Farmlands is opening a new store in Wanganui to take advantage of growth in the region and reposition rural-related products in the city.

Farmlands chief executive John Newland said the company is confident about the outlook for its business and the continued expansion of its chain is supported by increasing demand for its services.

“We are optimistic that initiatives like the opening of this store, and expansion of our product range, will see Farmlands continue to prosper,” he said.

Farmland’s new store in Wanganui more than doubles the size of its existing premises and includes some specialist new products.

A feature of the new Farmland’s store is the Premier Petz line of goods for companion animals, which is a significant development for the retail group.

“We have a strong tradition as a service provider to the farming community and have been supplying nutiritional goods for farm animals. With Premier Petz we are recognizing the opportunity to also supply specialty nutritional products, treats and supplies to domestic pets,” Mr Newland said.

“Premier Petz is the first companion animal specialist chain to provide a comprehensive range of premium nutrition products for cats, dogs and birds and we are thrilled to be launching this in Wanganui,” he said.

A supplier to the store will be Masterfoods Petcare, Wanganui. Masterfoods Australia New Zealand channel manager, petcare, Jeff Herkt said the Premier Petz chain is an exciting development for the group.

“It’s a great asset for Wanganui and we expect it to grow strongly as Farmlands expands,” he said.

Another unique feature of the Wanganui store is that Farmlands will offer an expanded range of products for the urban community, including apparel and garden supplies products.

“This new store signals that Farmlands is much more than a farm supplies store. We are obviously proud of our farm supplies background and will continue to service that market – but increasingly we are finding demand for our products in the city,” Mr Newland said.

The Wanganui store is one of 27 in the Farmlands chain, making the group a major retail player.

“Farmlands is experiencing good support and our customer base now includes dairy farmers, pastoral farmers, people living on rural lifestyle blocks as well as those living in town,” Mr Newland said.

“We are excited to be expanding and expect to benefit from growth in Wanganui city and the surrounding region,” he said.
