NZ Bee Industry Group Stirs Up Action on Pest Management
Levy
The New Zealand Bee Industry Group (NZBIG) is pleased that MAF has reacted favourably to concerns regarding the lack of progress on the bee industry's application for a biosecurity levy to fund the American Foulbrood National Pest Management Strategy.
"The NZBIG has been concerned that the application seems to have stalled. It is vitally important that funding is put in place to keep the Pest Management Strategy operating", said Milton Jackson, Chairman of the NZBIG.
"In discussions with MAF today it was pleasing that the information from the 2002 American Foulbrood National Pest Management Strategy consultation process provided by NZBIG proved useful.
"NZBIG is now
hopeful that the application will proceed to a positive
conclusion prior to meeting with Minister Sutton."
