AAP And EPA Sign Major Photo Agreement

SYDNEY, 29 April/AsiaNet/ --

Australian Associated Press (AAP), Australia's national news agency, and the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) have joined forces in an arrangement that will lead to improved photo services for their clients.

With effect from 1 May 2003, AAP will become EPA's exclusive supplier of news, sport and features pictures from Australia and New Zealand. Under the deal, AAP will become the EPA's exclusive agent for sales of EPA's extensive photograph wire and photo archive in Australia and New Zealand. The agreement will lead to the expansion of AAP's photographic operations in Australasia.

"This is a significant milestone in the development of the AAP photo service. The contract with EPA is testimony to the quality of the AAP photo service. We are delighted to be working with EPA, one of the world’s great photographic agencies," said Clive Marshall, AAP's Chief Executive.

"With AAP covering Australia and New Zealand for the EPA our service will be assured of the highest quality of photo journalism from this important region," said Walter Grolimund, EPA Chairman.

About AAP AAP is Australia's largest independent originator and aggregator of news and information, serving the media, government, business and financial markets. AAP news is produced in real time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. AAP employs over 150 journalists in national and international bureaux and has relationships in place with a wide-ranging network of contributors in the US, Europe and Asia. AAP's domestic news and photo coverage is complemented by alliances with the major international news agencies.
