Electricity Demand Update

* Average savings for Monday 5 May hit 4% - the first time the nationwide energy savings effort has broken through to this level. Winter Power Taskforce co-ordinator, Dr Patrick Strange said the result was cautiously heartening, although there is still have a long way to go.

* Total consumption for Monday 5 May was 98.7 GWh, versus 102.6 GWh for the equivalent day last year. * Hydro storage at midnight last night was 1982 GWh - 65% of average, and virtually the same as Sunday's level
