Exciting week for Windflow Technology

Windflow Technology's first wind-turbine will be erected at its Gebbies Pass site over the next few days. This marks a high point for the Christchurch-based wind energy company which should be supplying electricity to the Christchurch network in the near future.

Weather permitting, the Company plans to lift the 'nacelle', housing the wind-turbine machine into place on Friday, 16th May.

This 'pre-production' unit is fitted with sensors to monitor the performance of key elements of the structure and machine.

"We've run all the laboratory and factory tests we've needed," said company Managing Director, Geoff Henderson. "In this next commissioning stage, we'll monitor and adjust the unit's performance each day. So people passing the site during the next few weeks should not expect to see the blades rotating."

The company plans to manufacture at least six units in the second stage of its development. "We have designed this wind-turbine to be a world-beating machine," said Mr Henderson. "The performance of the pre-production unit will prove our design, and allow us to make refinements for stage two."
