Luxury hotel and apartment complex planned for Whitianga

Plans are underway for a $27 million managed resort complex proposed for Whitianga's Buffalo Beach Camping Ground site.

Ocean's Gateway Resort, situated just one section away from spectacular Buffalo Beach, will provide guests and apartment owners with spacious apartments, luxury hotel suites and easy access to the town, boatramp and the beach. Some apartments and hotel rooms will enjoy beautiful ocean views.

A full-size tennis court, lagoon-style swimming pool, gym, communal barbecue area, children's play area and boat washing facilities are expected to attract a wide range of apartment buyers and hotel guests including people wanting a quiet, relaxing break, family groups and those who are keen to enjoy outdoor activities on their break away.

The complex is being developed by Auckland-based Jadco Investments and features 63 apartments in three different styles, and a resort hotel.

The hotel will have 24 self-contained luxury suites and a restaurant and bar that extend to include outdoor terraces and a conference area. Outdoor dining areas overlook the pool and landscaped gardens.

Architects, Dalman Architects of Christchurch - who designed the prestigious Duxton Hotel, refurbished Wellington's Plaza Hotel and were on the architectural team for Queenstown's exclusive Millbrook Resort - have focused on high quality design and construction.

Jadco Investments Managing Director John Hamilton says the Ocean's Gateway Resort apartments, which range in size from 105sq m to 160sq m, are very spacious and represent excellent value when compared to similar complexes.

There are three styles of apartment, all with outdoor living:

Blue Water Rise Apartments - These consist of 14 single-level apartments in a two-storey building with lift access. Each of the 105sq m apartments has two bedrooms, a study/third bedroom, a balcony and an open plan living area. Downstairs, the garage can be used either for two-car garaging or for one car and a bunkroom. Three 158sq m penthouse apartments have three bedrooms, two bathrooms and grand entry halls.

Ocean's Terrace Apartments - Twelve three-level terrace apartments are situated in one block overlooking the tennis court and pool. The 147sq m apartments include open plan living, spacious outdoor balconies, twin double bedrooms, garaging for two vehicles - or a vehicle and a boat - and parking for another vehicle.

Pacific & Reef Keys Duplex Apartments - The duplex apartments consist of 34 two-level 160sq m villas built in 17 pairs with open plan living areas, a master bedroom and a garage/boat storage and rumpus area. A self-contained second bedroom has an ensuite and tea-making area. There is space to garage a car and a 7m boat or the area could be used as a bunkroom.

The luxury resort offers private pedestrian access to the beach and is close to Whitianga's retail centre and a boat ramp. Also nearby are a host of leisure activities for guests and apartment owners including aquatic sports such as boating and fishing, diving at the Alderman Islands, beach and bush walks and opportunities to browse through Whitianga's famed art galleries, craft shops and other retail outlets.

The managed Ocean's Gateway Resort offers owners a relaxed and secure lifestyle with no requirement to maintain a garden or lawn. Resource consent application for Ocean's Gateway Resort in Whitianga has been lodged with the local Council and already two penthouse units and approximately seven apartments are either sold or under option.
