Electricity Demand Update

Conservation efforts for yesterday (Thursday 22 May) reached 8.0%. The total electricity demand was 97.5 GWh, down from 107.0 GWh for the equivalent day last year.

The national hydro storage levels were at 2257 GWh, 76% of average. The continued increase in conservation savings achieved around the country yesterday was aided by the warmer than usual weather.

Dr. Strange continued to express concern that people not take undue comfort from the recent rain. “Any rain is welcome, and this week’s was very sorely needed. But we are still in May, the lakes are still well below where they should be for this time of the year, and we haven’t felt the early cold of winter yet.”

Dr. Strange expressed satisfaction at the strong level of savings achieved nationwide, and stressed the importance of this being maintained.
