Head of News & Current Affairs Appointed
TVNZ's Chief Executive Officer, Ian Fraser, today announced the appointment of Bill Ralston as Head of News & Current Affairs effective Monday 14 July 2003.
"Bill brings to this position more than two decades of working in various senior positions within the media, including ten years in TVNZ's newsroom. Throughout his career in journalism, Bill has demonstrated an unequivocal commitment to editorial independence and a robust sense of journalistic integrity.
"In making this appointment, we were not taking a 'business as usual' approach. We are in a relentlessly competitive environment and we have some new benchmarks to measure ourselves by in the TVNZ Charter. Bill's leadership will be key to meeting those challenges and realising the opportunities."
Bill Ralston's career to date has included an extensive number of positions in television news and current affairs for both TVNZ and TV3 along with hosting panel discussion and arts programmes. His television work has been recognised with several Qantas Awards for Excellence in Journalism and a Beattie Award for Excellence in Television News Reporting. More recently, Bill Ralston spent four years as Editor of Metro Magazine, hosted various radio programmes on Radio Pacific and has written for a number of publications as a political and media commentator.
