Shell reluctantly follows competitors with petrol price increase

Shell New Zealand is giving customers until 8.pm tonight (Thursday, 10 July 2003) to fill up their cars with petrol at the old price, before it is forced to raise prices as a result of increased costs for refined product.

“Shell is always reluctant to raise prices, but the increasing price of petrol on the international market has impacted on our costs. Recent gains in the New Zealand dollar have partially offset the increased cost of product,” Shell’s Retail Manager Mark Nobilo said today.

“Shell is totally committed to bringing New Zealanders the best possible fuel prices, and we will continue to monitor the situation daily to ensure that we are delivering on that commitment,” Mr Nobilo said.

The price of 91 grade petrol will rise to 105.9 per litre, 96 grade will rise to 110.9 per litre at most Shell service stations.

Shell’s wholesale price of diesel will not increase. However prices at the pump may increase in areas where discounting has been occurring to a new price of 59.9 cents per litre at most Shell service stations.
