MT RUAPEHU GETS DUMPED ON
Mt Ruapehu is currently enjoying a huge dump of snow with up to 15cm falling in the last few hours at the top of the mountain.
Since early this morning snow has been falling steadily on both sides, and right down to Whakapapa Village. With the cold front approaching snow is expected to continue falling, offering skiers and boarders a chance for great weekend skiing.
"We've had up to 10 cm of new snow at Whakapapa's base, and it's continuing to fall," says Mike Smith, Mt Ruapehu Marketing Manager. "We've been waiting for a decent fall like this as additional trails are well-prepared and ready to go."
"Whakapapa's snow base is at 90cm and Turoa's at 110cm. With a combination of fresh new snow and great grooming, we've got a fantastic, high quality skiing surface."
Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL), operators of Mt Ruapehu, are looking to open the remaining lifts on Whakapapa as soon as possible.
