Posties earn a break
News that posties will have Easter off next year
is being welcomed by their union.
EPMU national secretary Andrew Little said that today’s announcement by New Zealand Post that there would be no mail delivery on Easter Saturday next year was good news for posties, who worked hard six days a week.
“It was trialled this year and our postie members really enjoyed having a long weekend,” he said.
“We appreciate that New Zealand Post is a seven-day-a-week industry. However, customers appear to have been widely canvassed and it is obvious that there is no need for posties to work on Easter Saturday.”
The issue was raised by posties through the delivery national consultative committee, a new system set up by the company and the union at which ideas can be discussed.
The EPMU has 5000 members at New Zealand Post.
