Okawa Bay Resort Re-Opens As Luxury Hotel

For Immediate Release
28 November 2003

OKAWA BAY RESORT RE-OPENS AS LUXURY HOTEL

Nestled beside Lake Rotoiti, the former Okawa Bay Resort has received a major upgrade and is re-opening as the Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua.

The first phase of the multi-million dollar refurbishment programme is now complete - with the meticulous renovation of all 44 luxury guest-rooms, corridors, lobby/reception areas and a second conference room, seating up to 60 people.

The Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua is a flagship hotel in the Rotorua region for the deluxe hotel group Duxton Hotels International, and its third New Zealand property.

Duxton Hotels' Regional General Manager (NZ), Simon Jamieson, says the use of warm, earthy tones and natural timber throughout the property complements the natural location of the Hotel.

"The Hotel is situated in one of New Zealand's most picturesque locations - on the shores of Lake Rotoiti - and distanced from the bustle of Rotorua while still being close enough to enjoy all the attractions that the region has to offer.

"With stunning views, extensive grounds and well-appointed facilities the Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday, to celebrate a special occasion, and is the ideal location for conferences, weddings and product launches," says Mr Jamieson.

The second phase of the refurbishment programme will begin in 2004 with the upgrade of the restaurant and bar, and further landscaping of the grounds.

Duxton Hotels International purchased Okawa Bay Resort in September 2002, and has worked closely with the local iwi and landowners, Ngati Pikiao, in the Hotel's development.

Mr Jamieson says the Hotel caters for inbound tourists, the corporate, conference and incentive markets, weddings and those simply seeking a luxurious, private break. Guests can enjoy a range of holistic products in each room and use of private hot pools accessed only by boat.

"We pride ourselves on attention to detail and exceptional service and hope our guests leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and uplifted following their stay with us."

Opening special packages start from NZ$250 including breakfast and GST, based on single twin or double occupancy. These special packages are subject to availability and valid until 31 March 2004. For bookings phone 0800 655 555 or email res@rotorua.duxton.co.nz.

The Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua is easily accessed by road, just two and a half hours drive from Auckland, or 30 minutes by plane to Rotorua airport. The Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua also boasts its own heli-pad.

The Duxton Hotel Okawa Bay Rotorua offers luxury comforts and accommodation, as well as space, tranquillity and bliss.
