NZ Engineering Looks to Creative and Environmental Sectors

The future of New Zealand engineers in the creative and environmental sectors is being highlighted at The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) annual convention to be held next month in Christchurch, sponsored by Meridian Energy.

The convention entitled: “Engineering for New Zealand’s future” marries hot issues like the relationship between engineering and the creative industries, with the more traditional sustainability debate.

“Obviously the sustainability debate will be interesting as the key note speaker this year is Hunter Lovins, a leading American advocate for sustainable development for over 25 years. Her theory on natural capitalism is being taken seriously in corporate America, and she is often invited into boardrooms to debate what she calls ‘a new type of industrialism’,” says IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

“Creative engineering is often not regarded as the traditional role of engineers. However, we have included a range of speakers who can talk on engineering and design, as well as a session with the Wellington Creative Engineering Cluster,” said Dr Cleland.
