Help at Hand for Holidays Act Sufferers
Help at Hand for Holidays Act Sufferers
The short lead-in time to the new Holidays Act coming into effect will have some payroll people 'flying by the seat of their pants'.
Payroll company Comacc's Managing Director Steve Nathan says it's a rush job that will have a serious impact on those who have to administer it.
"Good payroll companies have been able to anticipate most of the issues," he says, 'but not all payroll and human resources people are au fait with the new Act, as there's been so little information released and the act is so open to interpretation."
He believes the new Act is ambiguous and will cause real issues for employers, where it does not specifically define aspects of leave.
Comacc commissioned a 'Guide to Holidays and Leave' when it realised how difficult employers would find applying the Act.
"The guide has been written by Jonathan Cain, a partner in a leading specialist employment law firm and produced by legal publisher CCH. Like us, they've been anticip ating the changes and the guide aims to clarify the most confusing bits of the new Act," says Nathan.
"We have enormous sympathy for payroll people in New Zealand and have worked really hard to come up with something practical and easy to understand, in the face of some difficult legislation."
The guide is available through the Comacc
