Forrest Estate winery clinches exclusive deal

Forrest Estate winery clinches exclusive deal with one of Wellington’s top restaurants

Blenheim based winery Forrest Estate has agreed to a partnership to supply “companion” wine to one of Wellington’s most exclusive restaurants, Citron.

Winemaker Dr John Forrest says the new partnership focuses on fusing together excellent wine with excellent food created by one of New Zealand’s leading chefs, Rex Morgan.

“Rex is renowned for creating and showcasing the best culinary fare this country has on offer. He specifically designed the degustation menu at Citron to match our wine, creating an exquisite dining experience where all the elements are perfectly in tune,” says Dr John Forrest.

Rex Morgan who is a consultant chef for Air New Zealand, is a Beef and Lamb ambassador and was the 2001 NZ Chef of the Nation, says from his first visit to Forrest Estate, he knew a partnership with the winery was a natural progression.

“John looks at wine like I look at food - both of us passionately searching for premium raw ingredients to nurture and add our own creative expression to deliver superior end products. The initial reaction from diners on our new partnership has been very favourable,” says Rex Morgan.

The “companion” Forrest Estate wine range on offer at Citron is: Forrest Estate Dry Riesling 2001 – Marlborough Forrest Estate VS Sauvignon Blanc 2002 - Marlborough Forrest Estate VS Chenin Blanc 2001 – Marlborough Forrest Estate VS Chardonnay 2001 – Marlborough Forrest Estate Pinot Noir 2002 – Marlborough Forrest Estate Botrytised Riesling 2002 – Marlborough Cornerstone Cabernet Merlot 2001 – Gimblett Road Cornerstone Syrah 2001 – Gimblett Road

Citron restaurant was the Wellington Restaurant of the Year, 2003.
