Maori Farmer of the Year Field Day

Maori Farmer of the Year Field Day

18 May 2004

The second of two field days for the 2004 Maori Farmer of the Year competition will be held on Thursday 27th May commencing at 9.30am at Tarawera station, winner of the Eastern Region competition. Please note this date is different from the original one advertised.

The day will start with a Powhiri at Teharoto Marae, and the field day will commence at 9.30am in the woolshed on Tarawera Station, located at No. 4260 on the Napier-Taupo Road (State Highway 5). Wayne Walden, Deputy Chairman of Meat New Zealand, said that the field day will feature the Tarawera station, run by the Te Awahohonu trust, and the attributes that contributed to it winning the Eastern Region competition. Lunch will be provided along with a barbecue and refreshments at the end of the day.

Participants are asked to bring 4 wheel drive motorbikes for touring the farm. The competition is supported by Te Puni Kokiri, Bank of New Zealand and AgResearch as gold sponsors. Ballance Agri-Nutrients, Williams and Kettle, Merial and Blue Wing Honda are silver sponsors. In addition a number of bronze sponsors have offered generous support. Meat New Zealand sponsors a range of initiatives to recognise excellence across the industry, including Young Farmer overseas study programmes, Nuffield scholarships and the Kellogg Leadership Programme.
