Young Butcher of the Year 2004 Competition
The hunt for New Zealand’s top young butcher is on again. The regional heats occur throughout July, with the first competition taking place in Christchurch on the 3 July.
The General Manager of the Retail Meat Industry Training Organisation, Stephen Macaulay, said, "The competition has once again attracted strong interest from competitors involved in the butchery trade throughout New Zealand.”
"The competition allows individuals to showcase their talent and knowledge in front of their peers on a broad range of butchery skills including cutting tests, theory examinations and direct interviews."
"The coveted prize of top young butcher is highly regarded within the industry with previous competition winners having gone on to forge successful careers in the retail meat sector and beyond" Macaulay said.
Regional heats will be held in the following centres:
* 3 July South Island at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology.
* 11 July Wellington/Lower North Island at Wellington Institute of Technology.
* 17 July Waikato/Central North Island at the Waikato Institute of Technology.
* 25 July Auckland/Northland at the Manukau Institute of Technology.
Winners of the regional heats will go forward to the final to be held in Auckland on the 23 & 24 August in conjunction with the New Zealand Culinary Fare Competition. The winner will be announced at a black-tie dinner at Stamford Plaza, Auckland, on the evening of 24 August 2004.
