Freedom Air Welcomes Emirates To Christchurch
Freedom Air welcomes the news that Emirates is adding Christchurch as a second New Zealand destination.
Michael Young, acting General Manager, comments:
“Freedom Air has been flying Trans Tasman from Christchurch since 2002 and has experienced excellent growth in that time.”
“As part of our new strategic direction we are investigating new leisure destinations within a five-hour flight time of New Zealand. Other Trans Tasman and Pacific Island routes remain a possibility.”
Young also says that having a new entrant in the market means Christchurch consumers are in for some great deals. “Christchurch is set to become an aviation battleground for the consumer dollar and is rapidly becoming the most competitive market in New Zealand, if not the world. Of course in these situations the consumer is always the winner.” Freedom Air has flown from Christchurch to Queensland for more than two years and is still the only airline flying direct to the Gold Coast. In May the airline launched a direct service to Fiji. As well, thousands of tourists have used Freedom Air’s Brisbane and Gold Coast routes to Christchurch to access the South Island.
Young says that the success of these services indicates that, “Christchurch is a popular destination and that Cantabrians are enthusiastic travellers.”
