New Zealanders Briefed On Business Continuity And The Civil Defence Act

Leading business continuity, crisis management and IT disaster recovery professionals will meet at the Wellington Convention Centre on Thursday, 30 September 2004 for the NZ Business Continuity Conference.

The comprehensive schedule includes presentations amongst others from John Norton, Director, Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management, Karen Cronin, Lecturer, School of Earth Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington, Richard Krogh, General Manager, Network Assets, Powerco Ltd.

Well known Business Continuity Consultant, David Thompson from XACTA Group in Wellington, describes Business Continuity Management as a holistic management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten reputation, brand and value creating activities of an organisation. It provides a framework for building resilience and the capability for an effective response and recovery.

He is impressed by the programme and believes it is very timely. "The importance of comprehensive Business Continuity Management is underrated in many organisations" Mr Thompson said. "Many organisations are wise in hindsight, but by then the damage to businesses has been done. "The NZ Business Continuity Conference has an excellent array of first-rate speakers who will inspire managers to get their continuity plans in order through real life case studies. It is arguably the best event of its type to be held in New Zealand" said Mr Thompson.
