The Employment Relations Bill – who needs it?

Who needs the Employment Relations Bill? That’s the question being put by The Hospitality Association of New Zealand, about a Bill they believe to be unwanted and unnecessary.

Employees and employers are not looking for or seeking the changes proposed in the Bill, says Bruce Robertson, Chief Executive of the Hospitality Association.

“It’s not wanted by anyone other than union leaders,” he says.

“Certainly hospitality operators don’t want it or need it, and I don’t believe that hospitality employees will benefit from it either,” he said.

He says that the Government should not be wasting its time with a Bill which would only have a positive impact on a small group of people at the expense of the majority.

“Confusion, litigation and non-compliance would follow any passage of the Bill into law. It’s not wanted, it’s bad law, and it should be discharged,” he said
