Transfield Announces More Appointments

Infrastructure maintenance company, Transfield Services, has made four key appointments following its acquisition of Serco Group’s New Zealand subsidiary, Serco Group NZ Limited.

Colin Smith has been appointed Operations Manager New Zealand, Facilities Management North. He is responsible for managing a range of property and asset management services in the North Island, with clients including government, local authorities and the commercial sector.

Prior to this Smith managed a portfolio of South Australian government assets in Adelaide. He has an Associate Diploma in Marketing from TAFE and has a Facilities Management Certificate from Melbourne University, Australia.

Murray Wansbrough has been appointed Operations Manager New Zealand, Facilities Management South.

Wansbrough is responsible for managing a range of property and asset management services headquartered in the lower North Island and South Island, including a number of national contracts based in Wellington. Major clients include Telecom New Zealand, AMP New Zealand Office Trust, Wrightson Limited and several city and district councils.

Prior to this, Wansbrough was General Manager Asset Management for Serco and has a postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies from Massey University.

Merv Jakes has been appointed Operations Manager, New Zealand Defence. Jakes is responsible for all defence contracts in New Zealand located in Whenuapai, Ohakea, Waiouru and Oamaru.

His role covers asset management, facilities management, support services, accommodation, catering management and water treatment.

Prior to his appointment, Jakes worked at Serco for two years as General Manager, Defence for Waiouru and Ohakea.

A qualified mechanical engineer, he worked primarily in the electro-mechanical manufacturing industry in New Zealand and the UK, prior to joining Serco.

Mark Hopwood has been appointed Operations Manager New Zealand, Infrastructure and is responsible for a range of professional services, roading, water and park contracts nationwide. Clients include Transit and various local authorities.

Prior to his appointment, Hopwood was a general manager at Serco and was responsible for traffic management, facilities management and professional services for a number of contracts.

A member of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ), Hopwood has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Auckland and has just completed his MBA from Otago University.
