Fiji cracks 50,000 visitors for first time

Fiji monthly visitor numbers have cracked 50,000 for the first time since the Fiji Government has been collecting tourist statistics.

For July, total visitor arrivals from all sources reached 51,272, an increase of almost 14 percent over the previous record set in 2003.

However, it was New Zealand holiday-makers who set the pace.

For July, 13,996 New Zealanders holidayed in Fiji, an increase of almost 45 percent over the previous July.

This now takes the January to July New Zealand visitor statistics to 54,594, up over 48 percent on the same period last year.

From all destinations, the year to date total is 277,013 visitors to Fiji, an increase of just on 20 percent.
