Cream Of The Rock Lined Up For Finals

CokeSmokefreeRockquest announces the final six bands for 2004…

They have been judged the best six from the record 649 bands that entered this year. The winners will go on to produce and record a single and a music video for nation-wide release and walk away with $10,000 worth of music equipment…

Taking to the stage for the CokeSmokefreeRockquest National Finals 2004, 8pm, October 8 at Takapuna’s Bruce Mason Centre, are:

INCURSA St Peters College, Auckland 5TH ELEMENT Aranui High School, Hornby High School, Shirley Boy’s High School, Christchurch KIMBRA JOHNSON Hillcrest High School, Hamilton (soloist) RIVAL STATE Spotswood College, New Plymouth Boy’s High School, New Plymouth 2+1 Wanganui High School, Wanganui OUTATUNE Kaitaia College, Kaitaia

The finalists will perform alongside special guests STERIOGRAM, GOODNIGHT NURSE and 2003 CokeSmokefreeRockquest winners FALTER.

The finalists were selected following a judging session of recorded semi-final footage at the York Street Studios in Auckland.

The judging panel comprised Ashley Page, of Festival Mushroom Records; Camille Guzwell, of New Zealand On Air; Producer Malcolm Wellsford and Willie McAllister from The Edge radio station.

Willie Mc Allister says; “The ones that we have chosen to go through were the stand-out performers. There was no quibbling or arguing…we have definitely chosen the six stand-out acts, and personally I can’t wait to see what they deliver on the finals night! There is a diverse range of musical styles and it’s always exciting to see what is coming through in New Zealand music. I believe that I will be judging the future musical stars of this country on October 8.”

The members of each band receive travel to Auckland and accommodation from Rockquest Promotions to a total value of $8,000.

Says finalist Kimbra Johnson; “I am absolutely stoked to be in the finals of the CokeSmokefreeRockquest! I only got to the regionals last year and I never expected to get to the finals this year. I will try my very best to win, but if I don’t I am just happy to have got this far!”

THE NATIONAL WINNERS The national winners will win the Edge Airplay Award (in association with New Zealand on Air), which includes a single recorded and produced to release quality at York Street Studios in Auckland; a music video; a radio release on the Edge and inclusion on a New Zealand on Air Hit Disk.

The national winners also receive vouchers to the value of $10,000 supplied by The New Zealand Rockshop, Direct Imports New Zealand Ltd, The Electric Factory Ltd and Roland, Boss, Fender, Zildjian, Tascam, Mapex, V.S., Edirol, Jackson, dB Technologies, and Marshall branded equipment.

SECOND PLACE WINNERS The second place winners at the national final receive vouchers to the value of $5,000 (incl GST) supplied by The New Zealand Rockshops and their suppliers, Roland, Boss, Fender, Zildjian, Tascam, Mapex, V.S., Edirol, Jackson, dB Technologies, and Marshall plus two songs recorded and released on the Cokesmokefreerockquest websites.

THIRD PLACE WINNERS The third place winners at the national final receive $3,000 (incl GST) worth of vouchers from The New Zealand Rockshops and their suppliers, Roland, Boss, Fender, Zildjian, Tascam, Mapex, V.S., Edirol, Jackson, dB Technologies, and Marshall plus two songs recorded and released on the CokeSmokefreeRockquest websites.
