Old-fashioned fun – for free

A free day of family fun at Ag Heritage Village next Saturday will celebrate spring the old-fashioned country way.

Organisers of “Remember When” at the Agricultural Heritage Village, Mystery Creek, have put together a huge array of entertainment for children and families.

Ag Heritage curator Terry Harpe said there is everything from an accordion band to a petting zoo – with everything imaginable in between.

“It’s a chance for families to have a day of wholesome country fun,” Mr Harpe said.

“There are things like apple bobbing, three-legged races and needle in a haystack for the kids to win prizes. For the adults there is a range of music from a jazz group to bagpipes and quality craft stalls if they fancy a spot of old-fashioned shopping.”

Free antique appraisals will be offered between 2pm-3pm, with Clydesdale wagon or fire truck rides operating all day. Mr Harpe said there will also be a “mock pioneer wedding” staged by a professional historical society. And a petting zoo will give children the chance to get up close and tactile with some docile farm animals.

Ag Heritage Village is a learning and experiential centre open by appointment to groups and features true-to-life displays of a New Zealand pioneer village.

As it’s a favourite for outings of both schools and aged care facilities groups, Remember When is being held in conjunction with Wilson Carlile House and Eventhorpe Home & Hospital.
