Ernslaw One Ltd Purchase of Prime Sawmill Creates Jobs

Ernslaw One Ltd has taken over the right of management of the Prime Sawmill in Gisborne, General Manager Lumber Matt Hitchings, said today.

Ernslaw One has purchased the mill as part of the company’s long term commitment to the region.

“The purchase of the Prime Sawmill will be central to the company’s strategic aim of adding value to the timber resources of the East Coast region which in turn will enhance the areas economic growth,” Mr Hitchings said.

An extra 30 – 40 jobs will be created by the company’s plans to expand operations and add an extra shift. The mill currently processes about 50 thousand cubic metres of logs per annum and Ernslaw One plans to increase that four fold to approximately 200,000 cubic metres per annum.

Ernslaw One has also made a significant investment in East Coast forestry with the recent acquisition of the assets of Huaguang Forests Ltd (in receivership).

“Buying the mill will add value to that investment and demonstrates the company’s commitment to the region and the wood processing industry.”

“We have been delighted to find the mill operated by committed and skilled workers and in good shape which has been due to the previous owners Prime Resources Co Ltd. It will be “business as usual” for the current staff but the company is looking forward to expanding the mill operation to create more jobs within the next six months.” Mr Hitchings said.
