Customs Cargo Inspection Capability Steps Up
CUSTOMS CARGO INSPECTION CAPABILITY STEPS UP
The Minister of Customs and the New Zealand Customs Service will be launching the two latest pieces of non-invasive inspection equipment in Auckland on Thursday 16 December at 1130am.
The launch is at the New Zealand Customs Service Auckland Air Cargo Inspection Facility, Bays 16-21, Airport Freight Centre, George Bolt Memorial Drive, Auckland International Airport.
The equipment rollout is part of Customs' supply chain security strategy and the continuation of a significant technological advancement for Customs. This means traders will benefit by having their reputation protected and can be confident they are on the front foot when it comes to clearance at overseas borders.
The fixed site cargo inspection unit at Customs' Auckland Air Cargo Inspection Facility will be predominantly used for inspecting all outgoing air cargo. It provides for a faster and more efficient method of inspection, without having to actually open the containers.
The multi-purpose screening unit, or backscatter van, is capable of screening rows of cargo containers, stacked two high, by simply driving past them. Alternatively, containerised cargo on vehicles can be screened by being driven past the van.
