OceanaGold Achieves Record Gold Production in 2004

Steve Orr, Chief Executive Officer, announced today that OceanaGold produced 47,500 ounces of gold during the fourth quarter of 2004 to realise 185,175 ounces of gold for the 2004 year. This total, from the Macraes operation, exceeded OceanaGold’s 2003 gold production by 6% and achieved a life of mine record.

Gold recovery from the pressure oxidation circuit reached 83.1%, a record for the operation and an increase of 1.4% from 2003.

Business improvement initiatives that enhanced open cut blast fragmentation and optimised the sulphide pressure oxidation circuit all contributed to the performance improvement.

OceanaGold expects to release its quarterly results on 25 January 2005 and the year-end results on 25 February 2005.

Drilling Results Extend Frasers Underground Panel 2 Mineralisation

OceanaGold reported today that additional drilling down dip of Frasers Underground Panel 2 has continued to intersect ore grade mineralisation extending the current Panel 2 stope area by another 350m down dip.

The three new intersections are in addition to the five holes reported in the 11 November press release. The eight holes drilled to date have all intersected 8-20m thick higher grade hangingwall mineralisation. This new zone of mineralisation so far extends approximately 400m along strike and is open to the north, south and east. An additional four drill holes will be drilled in this area over the next month.

Additional step out drilling to test the extent of Panel 2 mineralisation is planned into 2005, and results will be included in subsequent reserves reporting.

Development of the decline to access these panels is progressing and has advanced to 350m.
