Shopping centres to participate in tsunami memorial day
Westfield New Zealand will be supporting the national memorial day for the victims of the Asian tsunami.
This Sunday, (January 16), all Westfield shopping centres will join in the national day of remembrance for those affected by the disaster.
The ten centres in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch will observe a minute’s silence at 1.59pm, the time the earthquake which caused the tsunami struck on Boxing Day.
Shoppers will be asked to observe the memorial and will be notified via announcements in each of the centres during the day.
This follows the announcement by Prime Minister Helen Clark who encouraged all New Zealanders to take time on Sunday to remember those that have been affected by the tragedy.
All Westfield shopping centres will also have their flags at half mast for this day.
