Launch of NZ Spiritual School

After years of international travel to places of spiritual fulfillment and observing a rising demand for knowledge about spiritual matters, a Christchurch woman is launching New Zealand’s first Spiritual School.

Lynne Towner, is launching the school, open to people of any religious or spiritual persuasion, to provide a package of practical answers to questions about spiritual concepts and notions.

Lynne is a down to earth kiwi woman in her fifties with three adult children. She has a turn of phrase the same as any other New Zealander you might bump into in the street and brings this “matter of fact” approach to spiritual teaching.

After a successful career as a psychotherapist, she has spent the past 10 years journeying around the world as a spiritual teacher, and taking groups on retreats to France and Peru.

She says there are a multitude of answers to the question: “What is Spirituality?” But for Lynne it is about an “internal feeling of wellbeing, realizing that you are not alone and that there is more to you than simply your physical body.”

“The school will enable people to develop ways to experience spirit within themselves and in nature as they go about their daily lives,” says Lynne.

The school, based in Auckland and Christchurch, will run modules covering the energetic system, meditation, healing concepts, the soul, ritual, and a “living in the now” retreat based in a remote area of the South Island.

It will provide a practical knowledge of energy, metaphysics and how the unseen operates and is currently going through the process to gain NZQA accreditation.

“There is a lot of mystery and ‘airy fairy’ talk about spiritual matters, and generally a great deal of skeptism about discussing metaphysics,” says Lynne. “The school will make spiritual concepts accessible and easy to understand.”

“I’ve worked with people of all sorts of backgrounds, from Christian, Buddhist, and agnostic people, all who had an interest in gaining a deeper working knowledge of spirituality,” she says.

Lynne also leads a school at Gavarnie in France, where participants spend time learning about spiritual matters at the source of the river that feeds Lourdes, where millions visit each year to experience the healing powers of the water.
