Customs Launches Latest Container Inspection Capability
The New Zealand Customs Service will be launching its new non–invasive Container Inspection equipment in Auckland on Monday 14 February at 11am.
The launch is at the Search and Rescue Centre, 3 Solent Street, Mechanics Bay.
The launch includes the opportunity for a close inspection of the equipment and practical demonstration in a controlled area where observers will be required to follow Customs staff directions at all times. Media will have the opportunity to conduct interviews and obtain specific images from an additional demonstration if required.
The equipment launch is part of Customs' supply chain security strategy and the continuation of a significant technological advancement for Customs. The supply chain security strategy forms the basis of an agreement with the United States that puts traders on the front foot at US borders.
The container inspection units will be used for inspecting outgoing and incoming sea cargo at ports around the country. It provides for a faster and more efficient method of inspection, without having to actually open the containers.
