TRN Providing Lions' Share Of Coverage
Listeners to Radio Sport and NewstalkZB will be able to hear coverage of the Lions' rugby tour of New Zealand morning, noon and night, and many of the hours in between.
The Radio Network's talk brands are about to launch their biggest ever coverage of any rugby tour.
Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport will not only provide live commentaries of all 11 Lions tour matches in New Zealand, but will broadcast regular programmes from the match venues.
Radio Sport host Tony Veitch will be travelling to all venues to broadcast his breakfast show from the match cities from 6am to 9am on the morning of each mid-week game, and on the Friday before each weekend match.
Newstalk ZB's Andrew Saville will be on tour with the Lions for all matches, providing commentary and news coverage from the Lions' den throughout the five weeks.
Newstalk ZB's Murray Deaker will broadcast his Saturday scoreboard shows from the match city, providing build-up and previews and reflecting the pre-game excitement. These broadcasts will also be simulcast on Radio Sport.
The Radio Network's general manager of talk programming, Bill Francis, says: "It's the first time since the 1981 Springbok tour that radio coverage of this magnitude has been mounted for an internal tour and it reflects the immense interest the tour has for most New Zealanders.
"Our objective is to ensure the depth and breadth of our coverage meets the audience's expectations and we're pulling out all the stops to achieve that goal."
