Tribal members should be assured about management review

Waikato-Tainui members should be assured that recent issues about management procedures are being dealt with thoroughly and properly, Kingi Porima, the Chairman of the tribe’s executive Te Kaumaarua said today.

The board has commissioned reports by Ernst and Young and Deloitte, he said.

“We commissioned the reports, we are considering the findings and recommendations, and we will make any necessary changes to systems and procedures in due course,” Mr Porima said.

”I can assure iwi members that we, as a board, take these matters extremely seriously.

“I have a hard-working and committed board, and any suggestion that these issues are not being dealt with properly reflects on each and every one of us.”

However, Mr Porima said the board would not be rushed by comments made in the public arena by tribal members or anybody else.

“We will be accountable to the people via Te Kauhanganui (tribal parliament) as laid out in our constitution.”

Mr Porima said that in the meantime, any issues tribal members had about the management of the tribe should be raised with Te Kaumaarua.
