West Coast coal output grows 7% in 2004

The 2004 New Zealand coal production figures just published, show that output from coal mines on the West Coast of the South Island has grown by 7% to 2.6 million tonnes from 2.4 million tonnes the previous year.

Solid Energy half year sales rise but profit held steady

New Zealand's largest coal producer, Solid Energy Ltd, recorded a 13% rise in sales turnover in the half year to 31 December 2004 compared to the same period of 2003, but profit remained steady as the company faced a number of operational challenges.
