Harveys Annual Real Estate Awards

Media Release
31 May 2005

Familiar Names From the Heartland Score Again at Harveys Annual Real Estate Awards

Despite the clamour for coastal properties by New Zealanders over the last 12 months, provincial offices and their sales representatives cleaned up, again, at this year’s Harveys Annual Real Estate Awards.

Kaikohe’s Bill King, who specialises in farm sales, won the top Individual Award for ‘Gross Commissions Received’ over the last 12 months, heading off Austin Harris from Harveys Taupo. In third place was David Egan (Gisborne). It was King’s third overall title in the last six years, and he reversed the order from last year, which saw Harris pip him for the top honour.

The 2005 Harveys Annual Awards were a personal triumph for King, who also won the title for most “Successful Salesperson for Value of Property Sold ($41.5m), again beating Harris ($28.3m) and Egan ($23.5m). It was the fifth time in six years that King has topped the ‘Value of Properties Sold’ list. King completed a hat-trick of wins by also topping the list of ‘Gross Commissions for Rural Sales’.

King this year celebrates 25 years in real estate, and while he says he has no thoughts of stepping aside just yet, it “is a great way to mark that milestone.”

It was also a big year for the Taupo office, which won the ‘Most Successful Office Overall for Gross Commissions Received’ for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year. Harris, who has recently been made a director at Harveys Taupo, also won three individual awards—for ‘Top Auction Listings’, for ‘Advertising Monies Received’ and for ‘Gross Commissions in Residential Sales’.

To continue the ‘heartland’ domination, Linda Churchill (Tokoroa) was the top salesperson for ‘ Number of Sales’ over the last 12 months with 83, heading Jenny Bunn (New Plymouth) with Frank von de Ven (Tokoroa) third. And the Tokoroa office also won the title for ‘Most Successful Office for Number of Sales’.

Other provincial winners included Dianne Sutton (Rotorua) ‘Property Manager of the Year, Mark Frear (Kaikohe) as ‘Rookie of the Year’ and Amanda Campbell (Gisborne, for ‘Outstanding Achievement in the Auction Arena’.

But big city offices weren’t exactly shut out with Dawne Howarth (Henderson) taking ‘Administrator of the Year’, Aaron Drever (Glen Eden) top for ‘Exclusive Listings’, Sandy Lowe (Te Atatu) voted ‘ Manager of the Year’ and Ian Keightley (North Harbour) picking up ‘Auctioneer of the Year’.
