Brumby's achieves strong growth in New Zealand

Leading bakery franchise Brumby's has revealed its 20 New Zealand stores are achieving 40,000 transactions per week with growth in existing store sales double the New Zealand retail average.

It comes as Brumby's, which has 300 stores across Australia and New Zealand, prepares to open its third new New Zealand store in twelve months at Coastlands Shopping Centre, Paraparaumu in July.

Brumby's New Zealand head, Rachel Casley, said it was significant that 80 per cent of the franchise's New Zealand stores were based outside of Auckland.

"Many of our most successful outlets are in areas like Taupo, Tauranga, Dunedin and Blenheim,'' Ms Casley said.

"The fact that these areas have lower rents, less competition and lower marketing costs is a bonus."

Ms Casley said Brumby's promise of preservative- and additive-free bread combined with baking on site daily with a late baking strategy delivering the freshest bread possible to customer had fueled the growth success.

Brumby's was also set to unveil its latest environmentally friendly re-usable bag after the strong, positive public reaction to the original re-usable bag.

"The bag was very successful in the New Zealand market and based on feedback from customers we have made improvements," Ms Casley said.

"Our objective of course is to reduce the use of plastic bags and we reward shoppers who use the environmentally friendly bags."

Ms Casley said Brumby's would also make available to New Zealand charities more than $1 million worth of bread this year.
