Roading windfall welcomed
The New Zealand Contractors’ Federation has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by Finance Minister Michael Cullen of an extra one-off $500 million to be spent on roading. NZCF Chief Executive Richard Michael said his organisation had lobbied hard for Government to “get real” over infrastructure spending and that the cash injection was good news for both the industry and the country.
“It might be a one-off funding initiative but we’ve been calling for more funding for infrastructure projects for months so we’re very appreciative,” said Mr Michael.
“Obviously this won’t solve the country’s pattern of under investment in infrastructure but it’s a welcome move and we applaud Dr Cullen’s announcement.”
