Shields Snares Commercial Crown at Harvey’s Annual Awards

July 2005: Gisborne commercial property sales specialist Brian Shields is living proof that the best dealmakers don’t all operate from the biggest population base.

Shields was crowned No.1 for Commercial & Industrial Sales at the recent 2005 Harveys Annual Real Estate Awards, ahead of Robert Scott (New Plymouth) who was second and Dale Court (New Lynn) third.

It was the third time in four years that Shields, who works for Harveys First City Realty in Gisborne, had captured the Commercial & Industrial sales award, which he puts down to “working harder and smarter and having good people around me.”

Shields, who has been in real estate for 12 years and a C & I specialist for the last eight years, says the fact that the region has been “discovered for its real estate potential for residential, rural and commercial investment opportunities”, has also contributed to his success.

“ Gisborne has been on a high for the last few years, and when Gisborne is doing well I do well,” he says.

Harveys First City Realty business owner, Philip Searle, says Shields “ has that rare talent for being able to generate the bulk of his business by thinking outside the square. While Gisborne is a comparatively small market compared to the other larger centers, he is always out there seeking out how to match sellers and buyers and landlords and tenants.

“ A considerable amount of his sales are repeat business from developers and major property investors who respect his judgment and intimate knowledge of the Gisborne market.”
