Barton Builders Auckld Master Builder of the Year

Barton Builders named Auckland Registered Master Builder of the Year

A Piha house built by Barton Builders took the top accolade at the Auckland Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year Awards at the Sky City Convention Centre on Saturday night.

More than 650 representatives from the building and construction industry attended the gala awards dinner to find out who the 2005 winners were from a record 98 entries, up 10 per cent from last year.

Barton Builders received the PlaceMakers Supreme Award and the 2005 Residential Registered Master Builder of the Year Award for a designer home built on split levels around a central protected courtyard. A distinguishing feature of the property is the exterior of the building which is layered with floating glass and concrete.

Meanwhile, the team from Lawton Building and Development won the Commercial $2-5 million category and Commercial Builder of the Year Award for the construction of the Glen Innes Police Station, a new, two-storey structural concrete and brick veneer building completed in a tight contract period of 24 weeks.

Auckland Registered Master Builders Association President Diane Phillips said judges were impressed with the superior level of workmanship demonstrated by the Auckland entrants and winners this year.

“With a record number of entries and awards in this year's competition, there is real evidence of the high standard of building amongst our Auckland Registered Master Builder members,” she said.

“The House of the Year competition highlights the huge range of options consumers have when it comes to building a home or commercial premises.

“It also recognises excellence and innovation in the building industry taking into account the design, structure, durability selection and installation of materials, and finishing,“ Ms Phillips said.

The Top 100 Gold Reserve Award recipients will be announced on 1 August.
