Egg Consumption Is On The Up

Egg Consumption Is On The Up

More Kiwis than ever are including eggs in their daily diet according to recently released research from Nielsen Media Research (April 2005) (1) – which monitors food habits of over 15,000 New Zealanders each year.

One in four households that were traditionally light egg purchasers are buying more eggs than last year and over 1.5 million household shoppers are purchasing eggs every week. This equates to 133,000 more egg purchasers than last year.

And while sales go up, concerns over eating eggs have gone down across the board.

“This is heartening news,” says Peter High, Chief Executive Officer of Eggs Incorporated, the marketing arm of the New Zealand Egg Industry. “Clearly consumers are making informed choices and our health messages are getting across.”

“Eggs are not only cost effective but also a vital part of the New Zealand diet. They are nature’s original health food containing protein, vitamins B12, A and D, lutein, folate, calcium, zinc selenium, magnesium, zeaxanthin choline and a number of antioxidants, which actually aid in health promotion and disease prevention.”
